1925 - Cheng Yu-tung was born on 26-Aug-1925 at Lunjiao, Shunde, Guangdong

1942 - Mr. Cheng started his career as a jeweler in 1940

1944 - He married his employer's daughter in 1942.

1946 - He moved to Hong Kong in 1946 to open a shop in the British colony

1967 - He has been Chairman of Melbourne Enterprises Ltd. since December 1967

1970 - He served as Executive Director of New World Development Company Limited. since May 1970

1973 - In 1973 when the Hong Kong stock market witnessed an unprecedented slump with the Hang Seng Index plunging by over 90% in a year, the Group built the New World Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong through the acquisition of Holt’s Wharf. In doing so they broke the dominance of the UK-based conglomerates.

1982 - He served as Executive Chairman of New World Development Company Limited. from 1982. He has been Director of Shun Tak Holdings Limited since March 14, 1982.

1984 - Man in his own words "In 1984, the Sino-British talks on the future of Hong Kong triggered a confidence crisis. Daunted by the uncertainties over the colony’s future, most developers shied away from construction projects that took considerable time to complete. In that year the Group recognized what the community needed and actively responded to the government’s call for a landmark convention and exhibition venue of international standard to be built in Hong Kong. The Group turned out to be the only developer willing to take financial and operating risks on a long-term basis, thereby laying a solid foundation for Hong Kong to host international conventions and exhibitions. Coupled with its excellent services, Hong Kong soon secured world-wide recognition as an ideal spot of conferences and exhibitions."

1985 - He served as Independent Non Executive Director at Hang Seng Bank Limited from March 8, 1985

1998 - Chow Tai Fook's opened first store in China in 1998.

2001 - He has been Chairman of Sociedade de Jogos de Macau (SJM), a subsidiary of SJM Holdings Limited since 2001

2004 - He joined Lifestyle International Holdings Ltd., in March 2004

2005 - He served as Executive Director of Lifestyle International Holdings Ltd. since March 5, 2005.

2006 - Mr. Cheng also bet on the world's top real-estate markets, including New York, where he led a consortium of Hong Kong investors in 1994 in a $90 million deal with Donald Trump for an apartment complex on Manhattan's West Side. The group sold its stake for $1.3 billion in 2005, but were sued by Mr. Trump, who shared in the profits but claims they sold too low. The lawsuit was dismissed in 2006.

2008 - He was an appointed representative of a corporate director of Sociedade de Turismo e Divers?es de Macau, S.A. up to 4 December 2008.

2009 - He stopped serving as Independent Non Executive Director at Hang Seng Bank Limited as on May 6, 2009.

2010 - Chow Tai Fook's opened 1000's store in China in 2010.

2011 - He has been Honorary Chairman of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Ltd since July 26, 2011

2012 - He stopped serving as Executive Chairman of New World Development Company Limited as on March 1, 2012.

2013 - He served as a Non-Executive Director of SJM Holdings Limited from 2006 to May 31, 2013.
