DOCTORS VS AAMIR KHAN Letter no.3

Saturday, 8 March 2014

3rd LETTER - DOCTORS VS AAMIR KHAN Letter no.3

A letter to an Ignorant Perfectionist

Dear Mr.Aamir Khan,

I have been trying hard but cannot get over the fact that you can 'sell' ignorance with such ease and honour.

Though I agree to 'parts' of your show ,

Lets first get the facts right.

1) You said patients on dialysis live upto 15-20 years. Fact - The 5 year survival rate of patients on dialysis is about 25-30 % ( less than many cancers). Renal transplant remains the best available treatment option for chronic kidney disease. (I hope you take responsibility for people who after watching your show plan to not go for kidney transplant and die in less than 5 years)

2) An overenthusiastic girl from the audience said that her father was forced for an emergency liver transplant '6-7 years' ago for gastroenteritis. Fact- Even today there are ' a handful' of hospitals in India offering liver transplants. To think that 6-7 years ago , just a gastroenteritis patient was offered liver transplant is not only improbable but technically impossible.

3) A diabetic patient blamed a doctor for losing a toe. Fact- Lacs of diabetic patients per year lose entire limbs due to diabetic foot ( cellulitis and gangrene) . Doctors go about stepwise cutting off toes , then foot , even the leg upto above knee level in order to save as much limb as possible. The patient in your show might still be able to walk just because of the timely action taken by the surgeon.

Mr. Aamir Khan i am not getting back at you because i took your show personally. Yes , I agree that there are doctors indulging in shameful malpractices and even i know a few of them. But i can proudly say i am surrounded by more doctors who work day and night just to ensure that their patients get the best possible treatment..The' BAD' doctors should be punished and we all can come together to ensure we do not encourage such malpractices.

Secondly i would have appreciated if you would have thrown some light on the entrance examinations and the hard work , dedication and sacrifices a doctor needs to clear his MBBS, MD, DM etc examinations. I wish you had spent half a day in the emergency department and OPD of a Govt. Hospital and realised that the work timings, working conditions, lunch breaks, doctor : patient ratio, hours of sleep per week , living conditions in the hostel and the stipend is worse than a class 4 labourer. You would have also surprisingly realised that the 'DOCTORS' are the only 'FUNCTIONAL' part of a Govt. Hospital which still caters to thousands of patients in a day. When you compared statistics of U.K and India , why didnt you include the salaries, living standards and the doctor: patient ratio the doctors have in developed countries.

Coming to generic drugs, Yes, a large amount of rural population should have access to cheap generic drugs. But one should not forget the pharma companies that charge more for the drugs are the ones that spend crores of rupees for research and development of new drugs. Had there not been drug trials no new drugs would have been invented and we would have mortality rates compared to stone age.

Also i agree that most doctors endorse certain brands of drugs ( which i do not deny may be for s ome financial gains also ) because thay have faith in the quality of the 'active drug' of certain companies. Yes many local companies manufacture generic products ( which is a copy of the original molecule discovered by the expensive company which can be used for unaffordable patients. But you did not mention that many of these generic drugs are of substandard quality and are the reason of many uncalled for deaths due to drug reactions. Most doctors would not want to take responsibilty of the quality of the 'generic' drugs.

Lastly, What do you mean when you say ' People of high IQ and desire to earn money should not become doctors'.

Why arent doctors allowed to have an ambition ?? How can a person who earns 4 crores for an episode of a so called 'social' show decide on what should be an individual's ambition and financial staus !! Why can there be no doctors who earn well for their professional skills and do not indulge in malpractices ?!

It just reflects your hypocrisy. I would like to offer a few solutions to the problem.

a) ' BAD' doctors indulging in malpractices should be suspended for life. We need a strong regulatory authority to publish expected treatment 'protocols' and punish doctors found to be doing unethical practices.

b) Regulatory authorities should also keep a check on the quality of drugs being manufactured and at the same time 'sold' at the local chemist.

c) Govt. medical colleges and hospitals should multiply several folds, increasing the number of doctors in each department , improving the doctor: patient ratio. Doctor's salaries and living conditions should be looked after and should be comparable to other professionals.

d) Regular CME'S and licensing exams ( like other countries) every 5-10 years.

e) The Govt. should spend 6-8% of GDP ON HEALTHCARE and a part of which should also be committed to the research and development of newer drugs.

f) No politician should be allowed to be associated with any private medical colleges.

g) The general public should be educated well about common diseases and the 'acceptable' qualifications of the doctors.

These are just a few points i can think of at the moment. I am sure had you bothered to have a panel discussion and find solutions in a healthy way, We could come up with a lot more viable solutions.

However you chose to sensationalise your show, by hiring 'few' people with 'fake' or 'amplified' problems and shed a few tears.

Hope you understand that Your allegations like ' HAMARE DESH KE DOCTORS ITNE BIMAAR KYUN HAIN' and 'MAUT KE SAUDAGAR' are as serious as calling all actors 'Rapists' ( after the shiney ahuja incident ) and all Muslims 'Terrorists' . Knowing that you twisted not one but not many known medical 'facts' to strike a chord with the 'ignorant' 'naive' audience, How do you expect me to have faith in you and the stories you would project in the upcoming shows. You have betrayed a large segment of the 'classes' as well as 'masses'.

All i can say is i feel sad for the death of the 'image' you created in our minds and hearts. An unbiased Aamir who strives for nothing but the truth and the betterment of the society was after all a MYTH.

Condolences,

An honest Doctor.

Catching Fire Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead

'Catching Fire' Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead

Philip Seymour Hoffman was an American actor and director. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 biographical film Capote, and received three Academy Award nominations as Best Supporting Actor - Wikipedia

Born: July 23, 1967, Fairport, New York, United States
Died: February 2, 2014, Greenwich Village, New York, United States
Height: 1.77 m
Partner: Mimi O'Donnell (1999–)
Awards: Academy Award for Best Actor, more

He was found dead on Sunday evening due to an drug overdose. Investigators found a syringe in his left forearm, at least two plastic envelopes with what appeared to be heroin nearby, and five empty plastic envelopes in a trash bin, a law enforcement official said. He was long known for drug addictions.

The discovery on Sunday stunned Mr. Hoffman’s neighbors and fans. More than 100 people gathered outside the building on Bethune Street to mourn the actor’s death. In the crowd, two men who said they were friends of Mr. Hoffman embraced and cried.

In supporting roles, he was nominated three times for Academy Awards — as a priest under suspicion of sexual predation in “Doubt” (2008); as a C.I.A. agent especially eloquent in high dudgeon in “Charlie Wilson’s War” (2007); and as a charismatic cult leader in “The Master” (2012). - New York Times

But he won in the best actor category for “Capote” (2005). As the eccentrically sociable, brilliantly probing and unflappably gay author of “In Cold Blood,“ Mr. Hoffman flawlessly affected the real-life Truman Capote’s distinctly nasal, high-pitched voice and the naturally fey drama of his presence. Writing in The Times, A. O. Scott described the film as being about a writer’s relationship with his work. - New York Times

Arshad is the ultimate rowdy, crazy, slimy and very, very funny. The comic timing between the mama-bhanja pair is unmatched. They were the heroes of Ishqiya and now rule Dedh Ishqiya. Their chemistry is cracking, sizzling, an absolute delight to watch.

Madhuri Dixit-Nene’s fans have waited a long time to see the screen goddess back in movies. Trust us, Vishal Bharadwaj’s Dedh Ishqiya offers her the perfect platform for a comeback.

Overall rating for the movie among the audience on an average is 4

Yo Yo Honey Singh, who after Chennai Express’ Lungi dance comes up with another funky song in Horn ok please.

Pepsi IPL - Indian Premier League that is going to kick start in first half of 2014 is likely to be played in two different countries. First is India which is confirmed, but the second one is not yet decided.

Most probably it can be SA which hosted the first season of rocking IPL. The response from the SA audience was terrific.

Teams can retain up to five capped players in advance with the option of retaining a sixth via a joker's card concept.

Concept of Joker's card :
If a team wants to retain more than five players, it can use the card. It also means whichever team bids highest for this cricketer, the original franchise/employer will have first right of refusal. Teams that retain all five players can play as many as three 'Joker cards' while those who do not retain any of their players can play five of them.

Joker Card Configuration :

0 player5

The concept of joker card can be explained as below:
1) If team 'A' has successfully bid a player from team 'B' of 2013
2) Now if team 'B' does not want to let go that player, than team 'B' can make use of Joker Card to retain that player.

Sachin Tendulkar's Emotional Speech After His Retirement From Tests

Saturday, 16 November 2013

Sachin Tendulkar: "All my friends, settle down let me talk, I'll get more and more emotional." The crowd does berserk out there. "My life between 22 yards in the 24 years, it's hard to believe that it's coming to an end. I would like to thank all the people who have helped me in my life to get here. I have a list in my hand, please forgive me if I miss out on a few names. First, my father, he passed away in 1999. He was very key for my career. he gave me freedom, chase your dreams and don't find shortcuts. He also told me to be a nice human being. My mother, I don't how she dealt with such a naughty like guy me. She took care of me to be healthy. She started praying for me even before I started my career and I think those prayers gave my strength. In my school days, I used to stay with my uncle and aunt as my school was far away. They treated me like their son. They gave me enough food that I can play well. My eldest brother, he used to tell me, I know you'd do everything right and I have the confidence in you. My sister, she gave my the first bat for me. A Kashmir Willow bat.

She continues to fast when I bat. Ajit, I don't what do I talk about him. It all started from the age of 11, he took to Achrekar sir my coach. And my life changed. Even last night, he called me and we were discussing my dismissal. Various things we agreed upon, my technique. I have had a lot of chat with him. If I had not done that, I would have been a lesser cricketer. The most important one in 1991, I met my wife Anjali. I know she was a doctor. When we decided to make it a family, she said, you continue with your cricket and I'll take care of the family. Without that I think I couldn't have played so much cricket. Thank you for all that you've done and it is the best partnership I've had in my life. Then Sara and Arjun are two precious diamonds in my life. Daughter is 16 and son is 14, time has flown by. I wasn't able to be with them for the birthdays, annaul days and stuff. Thanks for understanding all that, both of you have been so special to me. I've not spent enough time with you but I promise you the rest is for you. My in-laws have been supporting. I discuss various things with them, we have a strong family and thank you for allowing me to marry Anjali. There have been a lot of friends who have supported me. My career started at 11. My brother took me to Achrekar sir and that is the best to have happened to me. Sir would be taking me on his scooter all over Mumbai to ensure that I get enough match practice. On a lighter note, he's never said well played to me so that I don't get complacent." "My cricket started right here at this ground. The dream was obviously to play for India. BCCI was fantastic, they believed my at the of 16 years and selected me. Thanks for the support and the freedom, without that this couldn't have happened. I have played with many senior cricketers, thanks to everyone for helping me out. I see, Rahul, Laxman, Sourav and my teamates, you guys are like my family. It is going to be difficult without that dressing room, sharing those special moments." "When Dhoni gave me the 200th Test cap, I just said, we are all proud to be here as a team and I believe that you guys will take care of this country in the right spirit to the best of our abilities. I believe in you and all the best for your future. Thanks to all the doctors, physios, without your special efforts, I couldn't have been fit. I don't know how you all kept me in good shape. My dear friend, late Mark Mascerenhas, my first manager. Without him I couldn't have achieved all this. All those sponsorship deals etc.. thanks for your support. I miss you. My manager Vinod Naidu, he's more like my family. He's given me so much time leaving his family to work with him. In the school days when I played well, the media backed be a lot. You've been doing that till now. Thank you to all of you, all those photographers. Those moments will remain with me for the career. I thank all the people who supported me a lot. Whether I scored a 0 or a 100. I've met a lot of people who does all sorts of things for me, thank you for all that you've done. Especially, "Sachin... Tuesday, 1 October 2013

Today is World Vegetarian Day - a day to recognize and promote the ethical, environmental, health and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle.

1st October is celebrated as Vegetarian Day around the world and month of October as a Vegetarian Awareness Month. This day was established in 1977 by North American Vegetarian Society. In 1978, it was endorsed by International Vegetarian Union. World Vegetarian Day initiates the month of October as Vegetarian Awareness Month, which ends with November 1, World Vegan Day, as the end of that month of celebration.

Vegetarianism is the practice of abstaining from the consumption of meat - red meat, poultry, seafood and the flesh of any other animal; it may also include abstention from by-products of animal slaughter. So let us celebrate this month of October with a healthier diet of vegetables and fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds.

Benefits of Vegetarianism

1) Not eating meat saves animals from gruesome factory-farm conditions.
2) Abstaining from meat helps in reducing comparatively the risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
3) Having plant based food also prevent global warming. This is because animals emit certain gas that prevent environmental pollution.

Here is the post on Top Diet and Weight Loss Books in Vegetarian Way - Part 1 and Part 2

I would like to close this article by saying that your health and the health of the planet are worth the effort to eat a more plant-based diet. And every single time you make a choice to not eat meat, you are making a difference! :). Let us join hands and spread the awareness. Are you saying cheers to plant based diet?
